Caught on film: the Spanish Civil War

GENEVA, Switzerland – The Spanish Civil War was seemingly well documented in film by several factions: Franquists, communists, nationalists and foreigners who were irresistibly pulled to a national conflict with major international consequences.

The Cinemateca de Madrid, which owns these valuable films is loaning seven of them to the Geneva-based Theatre du Grutli for a one-day showing.

Three of the short films feature the rise and fall of Spanish anarchism, a third film describes the defense of Madrid  as seen by the Communists, while three more films co-produced by Tobis Filmkunst a Nazi propaganda film studio, showcase Franco’s ultimate success.

Rendez-vous 15 January at 8:00 at Grutli.
