Geneva, Lausanne react to terrorist Paris Attacks

GENEVA – Swiss border crossings with France are experiencing heavy delays following the terrorist attacks in Paris which have left 129 people dead and 352 injured, 99 of them in critical condition.

According to recent news reports, there are delays of up to four hours in the Bardonnex border, where each vehicle going or coming is inspected thoroughly.

The Thônex-Vallard and Ferney crossings are also experiencing delays and French police is routinely stopping TPG buses in the Saint-Julien-en-Genevois region. Some TPG service into France has also been affected.

Switzerland and France have increased the number of officers guarding the borders a 30%.

Train traffic between both countries has not been affected; however, there are long delays in the customs/immigration section in Gare Cornavin (Geneva’s train station).


Vigils in solidarity with Paris have taken place in several cities in Switzerland, including in Lausanne and at the French Mission in Geneva.

According to the Swiss Minister of Foreign Affairs, Didier Burkhalter, at least one Swiss woman was among the injured. A free phone line for information in Switzerland has been set up: 0800 247 365.
